The days are getting shorter and the nights longer. This is the time of year that some people dread. Reduced light, dull weather and lower temperatures all tell us that autumn is here and winter is not far away. Spring is well and truly here. The sun is shining and the daffodils are providing a much needed dose of colour. For suffers of winter depression and SAD spirits are rising but for some people their depression and what is often described as bouts of "Black Dog" will not be so easily lifted.

Spare a thought for those caring for elderly relatives. Whilst having lunch by the sea on a beautiful sunny day I watched with admiration as a daughter looked after her elderly parents. Her patience as she helped them gently manage their food and the attention to detail she had paid to get them sitting comfortably was indeed an act of love.

This caring lady had taken the trouble to get two very elderly people to the coast for a treat. She had managed the sticks and wheelchair and with a smile on her face and she had given them a taste of the freedom they had once taken for granted.

Anxiety and depression can creep up on you without warning and often appear on the surface to come from nowhere. The awful wet and miserable weather we are having combined with the uncertain economic climate does not help lift depression and ease anxiety so if you feel your anxieties are overwhelming you it may be time to seek help.
