Retirement & Beyond
It's official, you've retired and your first pension payment is in your account. You no longer have to get up and rush off to work; your time is your own, or is it?
Retirement is a life-changing experience; there is a lot of adjustment for you to make right now - especially if you have a spouse or partner. Suddenly you find yourself standing in the kitchen at 9 a.m. looking at someone who looks like a stranger.
When you decided to get together all those years ago, you never expected to be alone at either end of the breakfast table with no job to go to. Now you have the time and probably the money to go places you always wanted BUT one of you has arthritis or you can't get travel insurance OR you don't just have the energy!
Retirement can be fun but you may need help to maximise its potential.
- Create a "things to do before I die" wish-list with your spouse or partner
- Take time to plan trips together or if you are alone, join a like-minded group
- Structure each day with 'to do' lists
- Make sure you allow your spouse or partner space – they are not used to being around you every day of the week – or you, them! "I married you for life but not for lunch!"
- If your relationship is not as strong as you would like it to be, then seek help from The Love and Relationship expert
Above all, enjoy this special time in your life and think about how you can give pleasure to others.
