You love shopping but he hates it so you shop with friends. He loves football so he goes to matches with his mates. Doing things individually helps sustain a healthy relationship but it is important to make the time to talk and share what you have done when you both meet up again.
Tips
- Work on not being too overly distant neither too close. Have a discussion about what your own needs are and how they can be negotiated. Hopefully your partner won't see your needs as threat to your relationship although maybe this will need to be explained sensitively to them.
- This maybe a time of compromise and negotiation. Your Friday night meet up with friends might not happen every Friday night but maybe once a fortnight might work out better.
- Make sure that when you come back from your trip to the shops or football match that you share and listen to each other's experiences.
