So, back to the question – is worry caused by stress? I think it is true to say that if you are feeling stressed by work or traumatic events in your life you may be more prone to worrying about things like losing your job and not having enough money to pay your bills. This type of thought pattern may be considered natural enough in the short term, however constant worrying about every aspect of your life, past and present, is unnatural and when you find such negative thoughts taking over your waking moments then it is time to seek help.
As for the question: is stress caused by worry? The answer here has to be that it is possible for stress and the anxiety that is associated with it to be caused by excessive worrying about what the future holds and what may or may not be.
Any thought pattern that becomes intrusive can disrupt our sleep as well as our waking moments and ultimately affect our general health. The pressure that this causes can result in personal stress as we attempt to regain balance in our thinking.
Counselling and in particular Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can be extremely helpful in the management of stress and worry. If you feel that you are worrying unnecessarily about the future or the past then a trained therapist may well be able to help you manage your negativity and regain your life. Don't let the joy of today be overshadowed by thoughts of tomorrow!
